Highlights

This is a short but very popular summer hike. A nice set of falls at the turnaround point.
Hike is through a pretty valley along and over and through the East Fork of the Jemez River.

Cautions

Wear water shoes or bring an extra pair of shoes and socks. as you have to walk through the river after the log crossings stop. Bring poles to help keep your balance on logs.

Trailhead Directions

From Albuquerque take I-25 to Bernalillo. At Bernalillo take US 550 to San Ysidro. Take SR 4 north to La Cueva. Stay on SR 4 and go east for 5.5 miles to the point where the highway crosses over the South Fork of the Jemez River. Park along the shoulder of the road when you see the sign “East Fork Trailhead 1/2 mile”.

Actual Hike

Find a safe place to park along the shoulder of FR 4 and then proceed through or around the gate. Continue hiking NE along the river. You can start making the many river crossings on logs that are some times a little shaky but you will eventually have to walk through the river to get to the falls which is the turnaround point.
