Report:
Nine of us ventured out to the La Cieneguilla Petroglyph site today. Several folks had posted in AllTrails that there was a problem with tumbleweeds. Boy was that the truth! BLM directional arrows led us up the escarpment to a petroglyph panel, but the tumbleweeds covered the trail to the south. They obscured the rocks and made for precarious hiking, so we scrambled down, then back up to a second panel where we encountered another tumbleweed collection. Back down we went. We followed the fence
line trail a ways, then returned to the van, managing about 2.5 miles total. Some hikers think this should be rated “B” because of the rock scramble.
We saw verbena, blackfoot daisy, evening primrose and ground plum vetch (an astragalus).
