Hike Report Text:
We had a total of 11 hikers for this first Ad-Hoc senior hike. It was a cloudy day, but with no showers threatening (that happened later in the day!). Everyone signed the Liability Waiver form, and all had masks which we wore up when close together and down while hiking in a line along the trail. This was advertised as a flower hike, and we did see many different flowers (37 on my list – see the Ad-Hoc Other file if you’re interested). We started at 8:15 AM, hiked 2.9 mi with many pauses to photograph and identify flowers (about 2/3 of the loop), and returned to the parking lot at 10:30 AM. It was great to see such an enthusiastic group after over a year of no senior hikes.
Note: many of the flower photos were taken at a distance just to remind me of what I saw. There are a few good ones. If you try to match the flower photos to the flower list, note that for some reason I didn’t photograph the very common Blackfoot Daisy or the Fendler’s Desert Dandelion. The “mystery” flower near the end of the hike was a very young Red-Whiskered Clammyweed and the plant with very large leaves was probably a Sacred Datura (easy to ID when in bloom).
